I’m a pretty big fan of supplemental guides to books–especially books on Christian Living. I find it all too easy nowadays to read a book, finish it, and rarely meditate on it or refer to it again, but with supplemental guides (such as study guides included in the book, or provided elsewhere, reflection questions after each chapter, supplemental material such as workbooks, sermons, and DVD based small-group guides) we are encouraged to continue dissecting the material, formulate our thoughts, and think hard about the things we just read.
This DVD based guide does a great job at developing the principle themes in any given chapter, and reflects the main point of Mark Batterson’s book: How to love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
I love the way Mark Batterson seeks to get Christianity back to it’s roots, filtering out all the fluff and all the external things that aren’t necessary to the Gospel, in cultivating us into Christians who love God, know His word, and lead well.
Mirroring his writing style, this DVD-based study provides engaging and relevant material, allowing us as viewers/readers to not only hear and take in the content, but also be challenged to think differently about various circumstances. With the relevance in each story, scripture, and content, this DVD-based study really allows us to dive deeper into the content in the book and very much so encourages dialogue on the topics when used in a small-group setting.
I’d definitely recommend the DVD if wanting to supplement the reading, or if you’re thinking about going through his book in a small-group study.
